The Last Sunday March Madness Check in

Posted by Jen on Sunday, March 28th, 2010 @ 7:01 am

Here we are at the last week of March Madness! This will be our final Sunday check in. I, personally, have completely failed in my March Madness goals, and even though I have plans to write like a fiend once back on US soil, I still don’t think I’ll reach my goal.

Speaking of, right now I am having my last cappuchino in England. I much prefer the coffee here to the coffee in the states, so I am savoring the final sips until I leave for the airport in about an hour. :)

Anyway, with only a few days left of the challenge, how is everyone doing? Are we all going to be doing a mad dash to the finish line?

I looked back at my goals on Denise Jaden’s blog and I’m shocked to say, yes, I’ve made them. Early! Now I’m rewriting what I initially said I’d write, so… wow. Yay.

I never do this well on nonofficial writing deadlines… I must have not set out to do enough work in March or something!

And I hope you have a wonderful last cappuchino in England :)

But you’ve had a fabulous time in England, right? And you have not failed in offering encouragement to those of us who didn’t leave the country this month.

Today I plan to write the final scene of my WIP and the last two words–The End.

Seven more pages in the revision. Seven. More. Pages. :)

Well, overall MM has been awesome, and I have almost met my goal. Specifically today—WHY did I put off everything I needed to get done on spring break until this weekend? Now there’s not enough time!

I was all set to take a month long break from writing, let everything breath while I catch up on things like housework, Easter and taxes—then I went and got another story idea, wrote an outline and first chapter! Now I wish I could keep writing, but I have to put it away for a least two weeks, but then I can write and do yard work together.

Did my post not show up?

I haven’t done any writing today but I’ve just gotten some awesome ideas for a rewrite of my completed ms…I think it’ll make it way stronger (though it might up the word count). Still, I’m excited!

Personally, until I finish the rewrite and my wip, I’m treating every month as a ‘madness’ month …even if there’s no alliteration involved :D

Checking in with 500 new words plus a critical essay! :) Packet due tomorrow (for VCFA) so had to focus on the essay… it was a good one though, on adverbs! I actually love writing them, so it was a good day. I’m falling short of my goal too–I hoped to do 40, but instead am only going to pull off around 25. Still an improvement over last month’s 17, so I feel good!!

Keep on swimming. Keep on swimming. It has become my mantra. I’m back scribbling away. I had a bit of a set back when I realized on Friday I had deleted the second chapter of my new beginning :(

But, lo. I shall endevor to persevere :)

I’m all about the good coffee. Perhaps you should find out what is different about it. It is the grind or the brewing method?

I just left a post. Did it come through?

Nothing done on my WIP, but worked on a flash fiction piece. It was a terrific break.

Working. Madly, madly working.

I’m sorry you aren’t making your goals this month, but it sounds like you’ve had a wonderful trip, and that must have been enriching. Your writing will always be there waiting for you.

So, you won’t want to hear that as of this afternoon I’ve reached my goal! I’ve finished revisions and rewritten the ending of my 83,000 word mainstream novel. Yaaaaaaay! (Sorry… you didn’t want to hear that, either, did you?) Knowing me, I’ll continue to poke and tweak as I do a complete read-through, but the major work is done and I owe it all to this challenge. Committing to checking in each day and reporting my progress, or lack of it, was the push I needed to keep at it.

I’m definitely hoping the mad-dash-to-the-finish-line thing works out for me, cuz I’ve got a ways to go to meet my goal. I’ve made progress, for sure, and I’m happy about that, but my goal is a critique-group-ready draft of my wip. Right now, my wip doesn’t even have an ending. But I’ve got a few more days, right?! Anything can happen…. ;)

Did my comment get eaten? Heh. Ah well - this is me, checking in….

Sorry to hear you missed your goals, but don’t sweat it too much. You’re out of the country, so it can’t be easy to write. I know I wouldn’t get anything done if I was in the UK.

I did get this draft of my WIP finished. Now I’m wondering if I should rip it all apart and start over. =o\ Which is why I’m not touching it for a while. I’ll feel better about it after a few days, I’m sure.

Safe trip home, Jen.

That’s strange — I posted a comment on Sunday, but it’s not here. I was nearly complete with revisions at that point — and now I am complete. :)
