Sunday March Madness Check in

Posted by Jen on Sunday, March 21st, 2010 @ 3:23 pm

Hey everyone! Hope everyone has had a successful writing week!

I popped over to London today and visited the Tower of London. And it made me realize how important refilling the well is. I’ve felt a bit strained lately creatively, but this trip has been sparking lots of ideas. England is full of inspiration. All the old buildings, the nooks and crannies, the twisting alleys and cobblestone path bursting with history and stories, I can’t help but get inspired by it all.

Anyway, how is everyone doing?

Looks like you’re having a great time, Jen! Today I just did a bit of reorganizing of scenes. I’m still a little frustrated with the timeline of it, but hopefully I’ll get it figured out soon. Tomorrow I plan to move ahead and hopefully let my head clear over this issue.

Yesterday I finished a scene that had been giving me some unwarranted trouble, even though I was ill. Today my ambitions are not high, but I’m going to aim for a few words down, at least.

Made my goal today - currently, I have 30400 words.

So I went and upped my goal to 40k. I’m ambitious!

Glad you refilled your well. Sometimes I wonder where mine is :)

I’m not doing as well as I wanted. I don’t feel like I’ve gotten any real writing done. Mostly, it’s been writing backstory for a new section and researching etymology for a class structure that I am creating.

I’m also finding that writing is very determined by my moods. How do you experienced folks get around that?

I love how you say you popped over to London!

Well, I was thinking I wouldn’t make any progress this month, and I’m trying to remember what exactly my page count goal was, but I think I may have finished chapter one today… and possibly chapter two. (I might split it in half.) Then an opening for chapter 3! All of a sudden I started making progress. Getting anxious for March 31, I guess :)

Amanda, I can’t seem to get around my moods either. But writing, if I have a decent day, does tend to put me in a better mood, so at least there’s that.

What an awesome place for inspiration.
I’m about 2/3 of the way through my revision … and, um, wishing I hadn’t sent this version to an agent who requested the full a little over a month ago. If I finish this revision before I hear back from the agent, I may ask if I could send the new version (which I know you’re not supposed to do, if you can help it). This is the most thorough of the revisions I’ve done, and I’ve learned a lot from the experience.

Enjoy London!

No tangible progress today, but I’m making plans for draft #2.

Despite the overloaded weekend, I hit 20,000 today. Shooting for 30k or completion of draft, whichever comes first.

I wish I could “pop” over to London tomorrow, but I think I’ll just stay in my PJ’s and write.

As for the mood question. I write no matter whether I’m in the mood or in “a mood”. I try to write everyday no matter what. Sometimes the best stuff comes from the darkest day.

A recharging day is important once in a while. Glad to hear you enjoyed yours, Jen.

I finished revising Ch. 28 this afternoon so am feeling good about being back on track, but it was reeeeally slow going. Seven chapters to go; ten days to go. “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can!”

Did 800 words today! 27 pages to go to meet my goal. Ever the procrastinator, but already doing better than I did last month, so I guess I should be thankful for small graces. And I left off right at the beginning of a VERY juicy scene so I know I’ll be back tomorrow!! ;)

I’m with you on the need to refill the well. Maybe that’s why I’m feeling a little dragged out. Time for a roadtrip!

Here I’m deep in editing. I hope to have this draft done by the end of March and ready to send out for beta reads shortly thereafter. =o)

Hey, is the Day 24 check in here? I’m not seeing it… well, I did 750 words today so I definitely want to be counted! :) Hope this works!

No Wednesday check in? :(

Still, hope you had fun in London!

Wrote a little over 1000 words at the coffee shop today. Probably coulda done more but my energy dried out. Maybe I’ll get some more done before bed?

No Wednesday check in? Well, just wanted to say I wrote 1000 words at Starbucks today and hopefully will get a little more done :D

But I think my grammar’s off. I have to stp myself from going back and re-editing.

Nothing on my new WIP, but edited four chapters of my last mss. Mostly tweaking, but important tweaking.

hope you are having fun!!!!
