First Vlog - Worldbuilding
You read that right. Vlog. I’m a little embarrassed about making an idiot out of myself, but I just went with it and decided to start vlogging. About a year ago, I got the big idea in my head to start then, but I just never got any great video ideas. I did a funny Holiday video and stopped there.
Anyway, I thought it would fun to start video blogging for real this time. I have a whole Writing Vlog Series I’d like to do, and this is the first installment. And if anyone has any suggestions for vlog topics, please comment and let me know! What do you like to see? Random babblings, writing craft videos, book reviews, something different, zombie spoofs?
Anyway, here it is. Please be kind. I’m a bit of a dork in this, but that’s just me!

jen! It’s brilliant!
Bravo on your Vlog debut!
as it happens I’ve always been curious about world-building because I’m crap at it.
Nice one, missus.

Nice work!
Loved the visual aids - and the SP plug.
Good job!
Jen, you did great. Loved Gandalf, and the SP plug. I’ve been thinking about doing something like this the past few months (having a video producer as a husband makes it more than tempting) but I haven’t thought of anything to actually “vlog” about.
Great job!!! I’m linking it.
Great Vlog there, Jen. Made me smile.
Ha! Loved it!
At first I thought those stacks of books actually lived on your floor, which would have meant you were a worse bibliophile than I am. But, in the end, you can’t go wrong with a good book-y metaphor.
Nice job, Jen!
That must have taken a lot of time to edit. Good audio, good camera, good job.
That was fantastic! You did a great job. Informative and some light comedy! Yay, Jen!
Excellent. I’ll be looking forward to more.
And yes, please give us Zombie Spoofs. Like you even need to ask.
So adorable, Jen! I loved it! And look at all your books.
You’re such a cutie, and the info was great. I’m looking forward to more of your vlogs. Nice job!
This was cool! Loved it.
Great vlog Jen! Funny and informative! I’d be interested to see a vlog all about your writing process, from the first idea to the finished product!
I love finding out about writers writing processes!
Wow, thanks guys! I’m glad everyone liked it. And on that note, there will be more to come!
Looks great.
Much as I’d like to give something like that a go, I’m not really photogenic, or audiogenic (is that a word?) enough to contemplate it.
I do enjoy worldbuilding though - a lot. I tend to churn through them for RPGs. I GM a lot, but normally by the end of a campaign my players have totally trashed the world - apocalyptic style - so a new one is required for the next campaign
Nice job!
Completely technical question: what did you use to make this? I tried to make one and the file was enormous and wouldn’t download to my computer? What camera, what software, etc?
My camera is a Canon Power Shot A560. Just a regular old digital camera! And then I used the free software that came with my laptop–Windows Movie Maker.
When I get a Mac down the road, I want to use iMovie which I’ve played with before. It’s great and comes with MacBooks (I think).
Anyway, the files from my camera aren’t that big. Anywhere from 2MB to 200MB. And then once I import them into iMovie and have iMovie create the file that needs uploaded to youtube, it compresses everything into a pretty small file.
I’m not sure why the files would be so big from your camera, unless it is recording in HD?
