Challenge Week Nine
And here we are again. My word count this week is kind of low, but I’m very happy because last night I had an epiphany!
For awhile, I’ve been stuck on this one important scene in the manuscript. I outlined ahead of time and what happens in this scene produces a domino effect. It affects the next scene and then the next, and ultimately, it leads to the climax and an important element in the big final scene. But this scene wasn’t working. And I had no idea why or what I could change to fix it. I thought about just chopping it out of the story, but then…I had no idea how to lead the book into the last third of the story.
I was very frustrated.
So, I thought about wasn’t working. Mostly, it was that this book has a certain “feel” and “tone” to it. And this worldbuilding element I had added in this scene just did not fit. I really liked this worldbuilding element, but I had to face the fact it felt out of place. As it stands, the book is creepy, mysterious, ominous. This element threw that out the window and made it more rawr-in-your-face, and it didn’t fit.
And last night, I figured out how to change the scene to work. I kept it and just replaced that worldbuilding with something completely new and different. Yay! And it totally works now. So, I’m back on track! Finally! With two weeks left of the challenge. Go, go, go!

YAY!! I love it when the story comes together like that, especially after battling with it. Congratulations. =o)
Another week where I didn’t really get anything done :/
On the other hand had ideas for a couple of new stories - its not that I don’t mind it when it happens but I don’t have the time to write them all.
Great job! I’ve had the same problem with my WIP. Just broke through the barrier, so we’ll see.
I’m so far behind on the challenge, but I’ve been knee-deep in revisions for an R&R. Those are done now, so fingers crossed and onward with the new book.
I like what you say about the book so far, Jen. Sounds interesting.
Oh, and my word count for the WIP? I’m up to 16,500 from 12 something last time.
