Teaser Tuesday

I’m having a lot of fun with Teaser Tuesday so I’m posting another short excerpt today. This one is from the first chapter of CLASH, my completed YA urban fantasy.

My feet landed softly on the grimy pavement, and I crouched low behind a dumpster. I glanced at the yellow goo sliding down the green metal and wrinkled my nose. Gross. The alley stunk of rotting fish, and an oversized rat scurried by my black sneakers. Grimacing, I fought the urge to move out of the filth. My enemy was no match for me, especially since he was alone, but I saw no need to alert him of my sudden arrival from the rooftops. He might be dangerous, but I could run rings around his puny power. Besides, I didn’t want a fight. Best case scenario: he would lead me to one of their dens. Then, I could pinpoint their numbers and take them down one by one. Worst case scenario: Well, I don’t like to think in terms of worst case scenario.

I watched the man sprint down the pavement, moving from view as he passed from the shadows of the alley and into the bustling city sidewalks. When I stood to follow him, another shiver coursed through my body. I froze. There was someone else in the alley, and he wasn’t completely human either. Before I could turn, something rough shoved against my back. I stumbled, my feet knocking into an old, discarded liquor bottle.

“Hello, Huntress,” a husky voice growled.
