Teaser Tuesday

I’ve decided to share a short teaser from the first draft of SHATTER ME. This snippet is from the scene where my MC (Lexi) and her new friend stumble across something a little weird.

My hands shook. Fingernails gripping the handle, I wrenched the car door open and leapt inside. Ashlyn was breathing hard, staring through the windshield at the dark figures dancing in the rain.

“We need to get out of here,” I said to her, hoping to snap her out of her shocked daze.

“Yeah.” Her voice was barely loud enough for me to hear, the rasp drowned out by the constant downpour pinging the metal roof.

She reached out and turned the ignition. The car sprang to life. Still she sat there, unable to move, enthralled by the dark figures she saw.

“Ashlyn, snap out of it. We’ve got to go,” I said. They might be sent for Todd, but I didn’t want to stick around long enough to find out how long the spell would last. Because once it was gone, they’d come for Ashlyn.

Her face jerked sideways and wide eyes bored holes into me. She whispered, “What are they?”

I stiffened. I’d been expecting this question and had no idea how to answer it. I could tell her the truth, but would she even believe it? Tomorrow, in the light of the clear day, would she think she’d imagined it all? Maybe she’d think I was insane.

More, please!

What’s Lexi deal? Who’s Todd? What are those things? I must know…and I must know now!

(Okay…maybe not now, exactly, but soon.)

Can’t wait to read it all.

Dan - Heh. Glad you’re intrigued. :)

Thanks guys!

I second Dan! More, more!

Love this! I can feel everything — the rain, the sound of it, the tension. Brilliant!

Thanks, Sara! I might post another snippet next week then. Teaser Tuesday is kinda fun. :)
