Saturday Six
I missed Friday Five (again) so I’m stealing Chandler’s Saturday Six!
1. My WIP, SHATTER ME, is coming along well. I really like where this one is headed. I have all the main plot points pinpointed, but there are some things along the way that I didn’t have all the details for when I started, but those are filling in really nicely. I love the pantster/plotter hybrid.
2. Busy day today. Going to see a friend in a musical and then going to see a friend play in a band. And then tomorrow? Going to see Watchmen!
3. I’m really excited about seeing the Watchmen tomorrow. I think I may have watched the trailer on youtube about 102,474 times.
4. Stacia Kane wrote a really interesting post about urban fantasy here.
5. I’m reading the ARC of The Demon’s Lexicon I got at Comic Con. I’m loving it so far! Nick is a really interesting character, and I love the world-building.
6. I was talking to a few people this week about college-aged protagonists in YA, and from what I’ve gathered, it’s a hard-sell and, even if bought, doesn’t do well on the shelves. This is disappointing, and I suppose I understand it, but wish it wasn’t so. At 16, I loved reading about what it was like for a freshman in college. I hope this is a trend that changes in the future.

I’m surprised to hear that college-aged MCs don’t fly in YA. Actually…really surprised.
I’d love to hear what you think about WATCHMEN.
I read a discussion of this awhile ago (I think on Natalie’s blog) about how there should be a separate genre for college-age YA, because it really is a separate genre. Separate attitudes, separate ideals. I wonder if it had its own shelf, it would do better?
102,474 times, huh?
