The Slayer Quits
Some moments stick out more than others. Sometimes I love something right away. Sometimes it grows on me. Sometimes there is a single instant when it all clicks. And for some moments, the ones that stand out, hearing or seeing a reminder of that brings all the passion to the forefront of my mind.
It could be a person, a song, a movie, a book, a show, a color, a sound, a place. All of these things and all of these moments that mean so much to me make me want to write. They make me want to take the emotion I feel in these moments and turn it into words, phrases and stories.
When I read this quote:
“All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.”
When I hear songs by Paramore. When I read a really, really good book. When I look at my silly purple lamp. When I go to the beach. When the rain pelts the fire escape outside of my window.
And when I watch a clip of the moment I fell in love with my favorite TV show.

I know I have a collection of favourites that inspire me that I go back to regularly when I need that little bit extra to give me a kick along.
They also make me wish I was even half as good a writer as some of those things.
The quote from Lord of the Rings is one of my favourites, but, for my mind, it pales into insignificance before Théoden King’s speech at Pelennor Fields. It gives me shivers just watching it.
Possibly my favourite inspirational quote from a movie ever would have to be Roy Batty’s death scene in Bladerunner. ‘All those moments lost, like tears in the rain.’ I never grow tired of watching it.
