Fun with Casting and Playlists

What do you do when you’re unemployed and have extra time on your hands? I don’t know about anyone else, but I start random projects like finding actresses and actors that look most like my characters and develop playlists for novels. It’s fun!

Yeah, I could have spent those hours on actual writing, but…I didn’t.

So, without further ado, I present the four main characters of TEEN GHOST. And yes, they are all ghosts although these photos are of the living versions of my characters. Just try imagining them less solid.

Michelle Trachtenberg as Cassidy and Alex Pettyfer as Brad. I’ve liked Michelle since she was on Pete & Pete and especially from when she was Dawn on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I never realized how much she captures Cassidy until I saw pictures from this photoshoot.

Emma Degerstedt as Sarah and Chace Crawford as Justin. Chace is a little older than the rest of them but so is Justin. Plus, he just looks how I always imagined Justin in my mind so that’s why I picked him.

I also made playlist! And I spent far too much time on it. But this is it. It’s perfect. If there was a soundtrack for my book, this would be it. Paramore wins the award of Theme Song with Franklin. The music and lyrics perfectly portray how Cassidy feels about her new life…er, afterlife.

That’s awesome. I’ve always thought about doing that sort of thing, too! I never could figure out anyone right for my first book (I guess I don’t watch enough TV). I’d love to have my second one produced either by the guys who do “Wallace & Gromit”, “Chicken Run” etc, or with muppets, a la “Laberynth” or “Dark Crystal” =)

Like I said, I’ve never thought of making a soundtrack, but it is a really cool idea.

As for the casting…I do that kind of thing a lot. I think it all goes back to when I was toying with the idea of writing these as comic books and I wanted to come up with a guide for the hypothetical artist who would be working on it. The list still exists somewhere.

@Sean: Ooooh, Dark Crystal. :) Those guys would do an excellent job.

@Dan: Yeah, it kind of helps to have an actual visual for characters.

Were Michelle and Chace on Gossip Girl?

Good choices.

Yes, they’re both on Gossip Girl. But funny thing is, I have only watched one episode. And it was a long time ago from before Michelle got on the show.

Can’t say as how I’ve ever pictured actors and actresses as looking like any of my characters. I think most of them are just too ‘pretty’ to fit.

My drug of choice while unemployed and with extra time on hand is playing games instead of writing, though I have started to get a decent grip on it the last couple of weeks. Just hope that lasts.

I do this all the time b/c I have to know what they look like before I can write about them, through them, whatever. But you’ll have to share Chase, he’s my Kai for Book II. So when you’re done with him, send him over- okay?

My theme song for Shimmer: Komm zu Mir/Wish (Run Lola Run). Totally has the Erl King’s voice.

Andrew - Yeah, games are addicting. I can’t stop once I start playing them. My downfall seems to be Starcraft, Guitar Hero and WoW.

Kerri - Okay, we can share. :)
