Reward System!
Thanks to Karen.
I’m totally stealing her idea.
I did zero writing yesterday, and I’m feeling pretty guilty about it. I didn’t feel particularly good because of some sinus pressure due to the whole fall weather thing. Happens to me every year. Still, I had time to write and I chose to watch DVDs instead.
And with the cold weather, it was very cozy to curl up on the couch and stare at the TV for awhile. But I want to finish this draft sometime in January. I’m really excited about this story, and I want to get it written down while it’s so fresh in my mind. This story has been doing the “Movie-in-my-mind” thing where I can vividly hear and see my characters and what happens next. I love it when that happens. It also sometimes gives me insomnia but that’s for another post.
So, I’m employing a reward system. For every 2k words I write, I can watch a Buffy episode. I thought about saying I’ll watch one every 1k words, but then I’ll just be watching Buffy all the time. And with the Buffy carrot dangling over my head, I’ll be a little more driven to get the words written.
So, here I go. I think “Hush” will be my reward if I make my goal for the day.

The reward system sounds brilliant!
Thanks, but I didn’t come up with it.
is Buffy good??
Between Write or Die and your reward system, you’re really rocking the positive and negative reinforcement. It’s like you’re your own little psychology project! =)
@Chan: Buffy rocks.
@Kristin: Yes, yes. It works though so I guess I do well in weird psychology projects.
A reward system is good - just need to figure out one for myself that doesn’t take up too much time away from writing…
