What inspires you?
I spent the weekend at the beach and something about the sound of the waves crashing and the calming influence of relaxing in the sand felt very inspirational to me. I was able to think through some of the plot in both Clash and TG2. I threw ideas around with my friends, jotted down notes and let the tension roll off my shoulders. The beach is therapeutic.

And since some important scenes in TG take place on the beach, it was easy to let my mind wander in the direction of TG2. We took a stroll down to the water after dark, and I snapped this picture which doesn’t even come close to letting you see what it really looked like. The darkness, the moonlight, the inky blue of the waves. It was very eerie. I loved it.

There are lots of other places and things that inspire creativity in me, but the beach is definitely at the top of the list. What about you? Any particular setting that really gets your mind buzzing with ideas and thoughts?

Since a lot of what I write has either scientific or historical themes and/or background, one of the most inspirational places for me is the American Museum of Natural History. A few hours wandering around those halls can get my brain going in two, three, or sometimes four different directions. Then, you just go across to Central Park, sit under a tree and let everything sink in.
Of course, just being around other creative people can be pretty dang inspiring, too.
Watching snow gently fall. It has to be able to actually lay on the ground, rather than melt, but it’s always snow that gets me.
Occasionally, late summer/early autumn rain will do the same for me. Otherwise, I just visit montucky.wordpress.com . Now that’s a fount of inspiration! (He lives in the Montana mountains and takes the most incredible photos every day).
i’ve blogged about this subject before, it’s always a good one to try and find out what’s in the mind of other writers (http://www.cementum.co.uk/35/staying-creative/).
For me personally i really take inspriation from two places; the people i’m surrounded by and architecture. My usual writing spot is a local cafe which is always busy and in the middle of Oxford, which has some awesome gothic achitecture, so i’m spoilt really.
i’m not sure what it is, but i just love buildings and sights, they always make my mind wander.
jen, i too love to dream by the beach.
i don’t like swimming, but i love being
near it to brainstorm!
lots of things in nature inspire–
spring colors, little critters (butterflies,
bunnies), rainbows, music, silence…
keep writing and /bootay shake!! =D
@Richard: I’ll have to check out that post. Architecture is also inspiring. Sounds like you have a great place to write!
@Wordvixen: I’ll check that site out, too!
