Nose to the Grindstone
What does that mean anyway?

That looks painful, and I don’t really understand how that’s supposed to mean hard work. Silly old phrases.
Why am I posting photos of grindstones? Because I’ve been putting my nose to one…figuratively. Over the weekend, I wrote 10k on my WIP, blasting me through the halfway point and into the really interesting and exciting parts that propel the story to the end. I’ve got a very lofty goal for myself for finishing up the first draft of this one. I’m going to be done very, very soon. That being said, I might not be posting here much this week.
I have a new record now - 5k in one day. Anyone else have a record?

Good for you!! Well, I’m not writing a novel, but I actually applied for my first online writing gig today. It’s my first time ever, so I was quite nervous, but excited at the same time.
I plan to apply to many more of needed.
I love silly old phrases…the older and sillier the better. Two of my favorites were oft repeated by my mom’s oh-so-very-Irish maternal grandmother: “Doesn’t that just jar your mother’s preserves” and “Singer’s midget”. I’m still trying to figure out what that first one means.
Congrats on the new record. I think my record is between 4 and 5K in one day, although I did do a massive 3/4 rewrite on a 10K short story once. Probably will never do anything like that again.
Amazing! I think my pathetic record is something like 2200. I’m thinking it’s going to go up this month, but research is killing the rhythm!
5,000 is incredible! A 10K weekend is phenomenal! I’m in awe!
Good job! 5K in a day is something to be proud of. I’ve hit that a couple times, but it’s rare. I usually average between 1500-2000 a day. Most days doing more than that fries my brain to a crisp.
Like Dan, I’m a fan of silly old phrases. Never heard the jar preserves one, but my family has a couple that mean the same thing: “Whatever blows your skirt up” and “Whatever corks your tomaters” - which are about the same as “Whatever floats your boat”. =o)
Here’s a cute thought, too. “Keep your ear to the ground, your shoulder to the wheel and your nose to the grindstone, and you’ll end up with a dirty ear, a sore shoulder and a flat nose.” LOL
I got 6K yesterday, which is my new personal record. I couldn’t believe it. LOL
CONGRATS on getting 5K! We ROCK
(smell the chocolate??)
