The New WIP
I’ve been making some pretty good progress on the new WIP this week. The plot and characters have really gotten fleshed out, and I did an exercise to see how I was coming along with the overall story. I wrote a two paragraph summary of the novel, much like how a query letter should sound. And you know what? It sounds better than the query letter of the one I’m querying right now.
Why? I think there are several reasons. One, the novel is more unique so I was able to make the query sound a little more unique and interesting. Two, my writing is improving. Three, I’m incredibly excited about this one, and I feel that it’s reflecting off the pages. I’m telling you, I absolutely LOVE this story. When I sit here writing it, I feel excitement bubbling up inside me.
It’s a weird book. And it’s some of it is kind of dark and sad. But it sure is interesting, and I absolutely can. not. wait. to share it with other people. It’s the kind of thing some people will love, and some people will hate. And really, that’s the kind of art worth making.
So, how is it coming along? I hit the 10% mark tonight.

That’s not a major milestone, but it means I’m starting to get going on the story. I’m bursting to get all of it written down, so I won’t be surprised if I finish this one faster than Shadow Guardian. Which, by the way, is the title of my recently finished novel. I’m not sure I ever shared that on here before now. Shadow Guardian is currently out with 3 partials and 1 full, and I’m still waiting to hear back on several more queries. Here’s hoping for some good news!
If Shadow Guardian doesn’t land me an agent, I’ll be disappointed. But this next one, I believe, has a great chance. With the right agent of course. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I think someone out there could fall in love with it. Or, at least I hope!
