Happy Earth Day everyone.

If you didn’t know, I’m a big advocate for the environment. We live on a beautiful, thriving planet, and I believe we should do our best to live harmoniously with it. I don’t always make the right decisions in this regard, but I’m trying. I don’t want our habits of laziness and overconsumption to destroy this living thing that we call home.

This is such an important issue to me that it’s even the seed that sprouted the idea of my current WIP. It is my fantastical way of explaining the current degeneration of our environment and a method of solving it. The story has since then morphed into much, much more than this, but it still lies as the backbone of the novel. It’s also a bit more lighthearted than it sounds, and I don’t believe it comes across as preaching to anyone. But it’s my way of exploring something that I am very passionate about with elements of fantasy, suspense and romance.

The photo above is a view of New Zealand from inside of Bag End, from the Lord of the Rings movie set. In my process of finding a great photo for Earth Day 2008, I came across a couple of other photos that are very inspiring for some of the settings of my WIP. They are both actually very similar to what I’ve been picturing in my mind.

This photo was taken in Hawaii, and it’s absolutely exactly what I’ve been picturing in my mind for the forest in a couple of sections in my WIP.

This is another great example of a mountainous region I had pictured in my mind for a section of the novel.

But that’s all I’m going to say because I want to keep the majority of the plot under wraps for now. :)
