Making Progress

Last night, or this morning really, at 3:15 a.m., I reached the 25% mark on my WIP! I had been looking forward to that marker because it helps feel like I am accomplishing something. Like I’m actually getting the novel written.

I’m finding that I really like having the status bar over there in the ride sidebar. It’s kind of a morale booster to see the dark purple area slowly taking over the light purple. I try not to look at it as, “Look how much I have left to do!” Instead, I look at it as, “Look how much I’ve done!”

How does this match up to where I am in the story? It’s close. I’m about 25% through the story. It might turn out that I go over the 75,000 word count, just because there are several subplots that are starting to grow at this point. We’ll see. If I go over, I go over. I just don’t want it to turn into a monster Harry Potter sized novel.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with my progress. I’m really driven to work on this one. I definitely have the urge to go back and edit the beginning chapters just because I’ve gotten to know my characters a bit better and their voices have morphed a tad. But I’ll do that when I’m done. Right now, it’s time to chug along and get 25% more of it written.

JenWriter, isn’t that the best thing in the world? So…do you have an end point you know you will stop at, or do you do it another way? For instance, I have four very distinct sections in my book, and I know after the last section this book will end. I don’t know how the book itself will end, but after this section I know that’s it. Do you have something like that?

But seriously, congratulations on your 25% mark!
