Query Letter Test

The other day, I was reading Agent Nathan Bransford’s blog and his post about Query Letter Mad Libs. He developed his own mad lib for writing query letters. He posts it here and suggests testing it out to see if you can come up with a decent query letter for your novel with this formula. He doesn’t necessarily suggest that you should stick to this formula. You know, add some creativity to it. It’s really just a great starting out point, and in my case, a fun way to test things out with what I have so far.

And that’s what I did. I went through and plugged in my novel’s components as a test. And you know what? It actually sounded pretty good. I only spent a few minutes on it, and I wouldn’t send the query out to an agent as it is (especially since my novel isn’t completed yet), but it got the basics down and it can be something I start with as soon as I’m ready to begin the whole query process.

So, if you haven’t done Nathan’s query letter mad lib yet, head on over there and take a stab at it. I had a lot of fun with it.
