Reminder: February Fiction Contest Ends Saturday Night
Just wanted to post a quick reminder out to everyone that the deadline to enter is tomorrow at 11:59pm EST!
The Word Count is a maximum of 2,000 words. The subject is:
It was dark, cold and raining. He could hear the echo of the rain pelting the cobblestone roads as he trudged along to his destination. Unfortunately, he had left his umbrella at home. He was never one for trying to decipher the moods of the weather.
He rounded the corner, bumping into a man carrying an armload of parcels. The brown paper packages flew onto the sidewalk and into the street. Quickly, he stooped to help the man gather them. One parcel had been ripped open in the stumble. As he lifted it from the standing pool of water where it had landed, he saw the contents and gasped.
February Fiction Contest Rules
1. There is no entry fee for this contest. Limit of one entry per person.
2. Contest entries must be e-mailed to fictioncontest@jenwriter.com.
3. Paste your entry into the body of an e-mail. Any email attachments will not be read.
4. Put “February Fiction Contest” in the subject of the e-mail.
5. Include a title at the beginning of your story.
6. Please place your name, address, e-mail address, website address and word count after your story. We will be blind judging these entries.
7. The subject and word count will be posted at 9AM EST on February 1, 2008. At that time, you may begin writing your short story. All entries must be submitted by Saturday, February 9 at 11:59PM EST. The story must touch on the subject, and the length must be within the word count.
8. Judging will begin on February 10, 2008 and the winners will be announced and contacted on Monday, February 25, 2008.
9. All late stories will be disqualified.
10. Winning stories will be posted on this blog with the winner’s byline for an unlimited amount of time on a non-exclusive basis. Winners retain reprint rights, and all other entries retain all rights to their stories.
Prizes
This contest has been developed in order to inspire creativity and have fun with other writers in the online community. This is not a “professional company” so there are no large cash prizes.
First Place: Your story will be published on this blog with your byline and a link to your blog or website, if applicable. You will also win a copy of Stephen King’s On Writing and Strunk and White’s Elements of Style.
Runner Up: Your story will be published on this blog with your byline and a link to your blog or website, if applicable.
