February Fiction Contest Topic and Word Count

The February Fiction Contest is now open for entries!

The Word Count is a maximum of 2,000 words. The subject is:

It was dark, cold and raining. He could hear the echo of the rain pelting the cobblestone roads as he trudged along to his destination. Unfortunately, he had left his umbrella at home. He was never one for trying to decipher the moods of the weather.

He rounded the corner, bumping into a man carrying an armload of parcels. The brown paper packages flew onto the sidewalk and into the street. Quickly, he stooped to help the man gather them. One parcel had been ripped open in the stumble. As he lifted it from the standing pool of water where it had landed, he saw the contents and gasped.

1. You do not need to quote the exact topic, but you must use it somehow in your story.

2. The contest will be closed to entries at 11:59pm EST on February 9, 2008.
