5 Great Blogs by Writers

Posted by Jen on Sunday, January 13th, 2008 @ 11:15 pm

This past week, I found myself wandering around the internet and reading dozens of blogs from both published and unpublished writers. I really enjoy reading about what other writers are doing, their frustrations, their celebrations, their thoughts and their tips. So, I would like to give some link love to some of these blogs. I plan on doing this regularly in order to give some kudos to other writers in the online community.

Here are the five that I picked out this week.

1. Literary Agent Nathan Bransford - Okay, so this one isn’t actually a writer’s blog. However, it is one of the most helpful blogs for writers I have read lately. He’s a literary agent with Curtis Brown LTD in San Francisco. He gives some great advice on query letters, what agents look for and what it’s like in the publishing industry.

2. Carrie’s Procrastination Outlet - This is a blog from a recently contracted YA author. What I like about this blog is that you can go back through the archives and see her journey from aspiring novelist to agented author to contracted author. This past week, I spent some time reading her blog, and I found it incredibly inspiring.

3. Manuscript Mavens - This blog is run by five writers, some of which are agented and published. They give a lot of great writing advice and tips, as well as share their joys and woes of the writing life.

4. The Writing Spectacle - This is another great blog by a writer sharing her day-to-day story. She blogs about her writing process, query letter writing and agent hunting.

5. Sean Ashby: Author and Illustrator - This is a blog from a writer and illustrator. He blogs about his writing process, writer’s block, illustrating and finding an agent.

Yes, a new set of blogs to read!

Great choices! I love Carrie (CPO) and B.E. (TWS) so much. They’re both so open and forthcoming and down to earth.

(And of course, thank you for also liking the Mavens! *g)

Erica

Agree with Erica. You have fabulous taste!

 Wow! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the link-love. I’ve been stopping by here since you visited my place last week, and I must say I’m pretty impressed with your blog, too. =oD

And this gives me something to post for today, too. You rock, Jen.

Aww! Thanks so much! You don’t know just how much you’ve made my day! I always love reading other writer’s paths to publication on their blogs because I always found them so inspiring. To think that my blog is like that is about the best compliment ever!

Hey, thanks for the kudos, Jen. And I didn’t get you anything!

I shall have to return the favor by posting an entry on my own site entitled “The Most Mind-bogglingly Brilliant Blogs by Aspiring Writers / Internet Addicts / Undeniable Nerds In All of Bloggerdom (Who Also Happen to Have Impeccable Taste in Their Fellow Bloggers)”, in which I would, most certainly, be sure to leave yours as the sole entrant.

Baring that, I may just have to send you a box of donuts or something.

Happy writing =)

Thanks for sharing the new links. I already read Nathan’s and The Writing Spectacle but he others are new to me.
