ssc.gifThe entry deadline for the 2nd Annual NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge is Wednesday, January 9th. What is the NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge, you ask? It is one of the many creative challenges designed for writers and filmmakers by NYC Midnight. Some other popular competitions include 12-Hour Film Race, Midnight Run and Screenwriter’s Challenge. While the group is called NYC Midnight, you do not need to live in the NYC area in order to participate in any of these challenges.

In the Short Story Challenge, participants will go through two rounds of short story development. In the first round, writers are divided into heats and given a genre and subject for a 2,500 words max story. This story must be written within one week, January 11-19th. The semi-finalists from this round will then go on to participate in the second round where they must develop and write a story in just 24 hours (March 14-15) based on another genre and subject.

The winners are then chosen by a panel of judges. First place wins $1,000 in cash as well as several other prizes. NYC Midnight is also offering prizes for winners up to 40th place. That’s quite a lot of prizes! Not only that, but it appears to be a great writing exercise, and if you win, some great exposure for your writing.
