J.K. Rowling’s “The Tales of Beedle and the Bard” Sells for $3.98 Million

A few things are going on in my mind as I hear this news.
First, I am so jealous. This book is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. This is the book mentioned in the famous Harry Potter series, and it is handwritten and illustrated by J.K. Rowling herself. Seriously? I want one.
Second, whoa, that’s a lot of money. It was expected to rake in 50,000 pounds but actually sold for 1.95 million pounds. The buyer was Hazlitt, Gooden and Fox, a London dealer.
Third, now wait a minute. A dealer bought this? They are just going to go right back and sell it again. I think it would have been wonderful if a fan of the series who wanted to keep the book had won it at the auction (me! me!), but that’s just my opinion. There are six other copies of the book, and that is it. Those six copies were not released to the public. So, I just think it would be nice if a fan (me!) had received the special copy.
The proceeds from this auction are being donated to The Children’s Voice Campaign, a charity that J.K. Rowling established to help children in Europe. The book is 157 pages, bound in Moroccan leather and decorated with moonstones and silver ornaments.
