Sue Grafton’s H is for Homicide
I’m chugging along through the Alphabet Series by Sue Grafton. In December, she plans on releasing “T is for Trespass” so I’m a bit behind. I just finished “H is for Homicide” tonight. What makes this particular novel in the series stand out is the completely different direction she chose to take with this one. I have been asked if these long mystery series become redundant and dull after the first few books. Not that I thought the series was getting dull before this read, but this particular novel enforces my thought that if the author is a talented and creative writer, she can make the series work for as long as she has a story to tell.
Well, Grafton had a great tale in mind for this one. Instead of the usual investigation conducted by private eye Kinsey Millhone, the well-loved heroine gets swept into a dangerous undercover mission right in the heart of high-profile criminal gang. More so than on others so far, the tension and suspense kept me intrigued and taking mad dashes to my subway station commute where I could stick my nose in the book for a blissful half hour before and after work.
If you love a good mystery and have managed to miss out on reading Grafton’s Alphabet series, you could start from the beginning or you could just pick this one up as a solo read. But be prepared for it to hook you. I can’t wait to get started on “I is for Innocent”.
