June 5 - Word Count 1,311

Some good things and some bad things.

The Good: I jotted out a short, rough plot sketch. I now know a little more about my main character, how she gets involved in the mystery, why she must solve it, a few suspects, their motives, whodunnit and how it was done. It may have been a short sketch, but I figured out quite a bit about my story. I have a beginning and an end.

I surpassed the 1,000 words mark tonight. Due to the skipped first day, this is definitely an accomplishment. I reach 1,311 words total. If I write 1,689 tomorrow, I’ll be on track. I’m going to go for it, but if it takes me a couple of days to catch up, no big deal.

The Bad: The first few paragraphs I wrote (the ones I wrote this morning) are good. I’m happy with them. Of course, they will need a little touching up, but I’m happy with them overall. The rest of it (what I wrote tonight) needs some serious work. While it propelled the story forward in the direction I want it to go, the writing is just very choppy and the need to revise is screaming at me. This is what gets me every single time I try to write a novel though. I start out and then spend endless amounts of time never going anywhere with the story because I’m too busy revising. So, I’m going to ignore it for now. If I pass the 3,000 total word count mark tomorrow, I’ll let myself edit some tomorrow night. Otherwise, I’m not touching it.

The Ugly: There isn’t really anything ugly as of yet, I just thought it’d be fun to do “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” shtick.
